Autographed Western Books Provide Variety and Great Gifts for the Holidays
/UCWE/ - WritersWest.com is an independent consignment bookstore where the books come from the western writers, and not distributors. The author sets the price and receives 75% for each title sold; by signing their books they create special products not available in other bookstores.
The book selection at Writers West provides a variety of subjects. Readers and gift givers can choose books from SPUR Award winners Lucia St. Clair Robson, Richard S. Wheeler, and Miles Swarthout, from two-time WILLA winner Gladys Smith, Romance writer Elizabeth Butler, and EPPIE Finalist Terry Burns--who writes inspirational/Christian westerns. All five books in the acclaimed WOMEN OF PARAGON SPRINGS series, by Irene Bennett Brown are available, as well as her SPUR Finalist classic THE PLAINSWOMAN. Also available are signed collector-edition books, several by the late Glendon Swarthout--including THE SHOOTIST (which was made into John Wayne's last film).
Books for young readers include the Wyoming State Historical Socierty award winner PARTNERS IN THE WILDERNESS by Ed Kienzle, an assortment of new nonfiction titles, and the multi-award winning STARLIGHT BOOKS ("Bringing horse lore to life") by Janet Muirhead Hill. K Follis Cheatham's SPOTTED FLOWER AND THE PONOKOMITA provides 18th Century action about the horse (ponokomita) arriving on the Northern Plains.
Traditional action westerns have been written by W. Michael Farmer (HOMBRECITO'S WAR), Robert J. Thomas (THE RECKONING) and Eugene C. Vories who also writes contemporary ranching stories. Essays, cowboy poetry and true life ranching tales are offered by Fran Armstrong (MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COWBOYS), Echo Roy, Ken Overcast and more. Here are a few other autographed titles. Phillip M. Swatek's THE PONTOTOC CONSPIRACY, the subject of which was featured on Oklahoma PBS television.
THE DIVORCE SEEKERS: A photo Memoir of a Nevada Dude Wrangler, by William L. and Sandra McGee, is a coffee-table book that, according to a Library Journal review "...is recommended for social history collections."
THE BURNT DISTRICT, by Ellen Gray Massey, about the border conflicts in Civil War Missouri.
ELECTA, Dennis W. Fabel's historical fiction about Electa Brian and Henry Plummer.
Pat Decker Nipper's blend of history, romance and Nez Perce legends is found in LOVE ON THE LEWIS AND CLARK TRAIL.
RIVER WALK and CHARBONNEAU'S GOLD, by Rita Cleary, have the historical backdrop of the Lewis and Clark Corp of Discovery.
Some titles at Writers West would be hard to find in regular bookstores, and consumers appreciate not having to click through pages of unrelated titles to get to the Western books they enjoy. Authors placing their titles at the Writers West site continue to increase. The site opened with seven western writers; now there are nearly thirty. By creating this online niche, Writers West aids the authors and provides buyers the unique chance to by autographed books at reasonable prices.
