10th Annual Miss Trannyshack Pageant in SF

SAN FRANCISCO, CA /UCWE/ - Drum roll please…Plug in those Hot Rollers, pluck those eyebrows and leave your inhibitions at the door as its time for one of the most anticipated events of the year. No, its not the opening of the opera, no its not another tell-all book dissing yet another Pacific Heights dysfunctional family, its the 10th Annual Miss Trannyshack Pageant ! If you’ve missed the previous nine sold-out competitions, you won’t want to pass up your chance to witness the heavenly highs, the lumbering lows, the dizzying dazzlement, the visceral vortex and ruthless reality which are all a part of claiming the coveted Miss Trannyshack crown and sash. These gals, guys and others go all out to make this spectacle worthy of two documentary films to date.

Once again the contest will be held on a Saturday night - November 19 – now in its second year at our new venue - the opulent Regency Center - 1300 Van Ness @ Sutter in SF. The 10th Annual Miss Trannyshack Pageant 2005 will be hostessed by erstwhile Trannyshack mistress of ceremonies Heklina and drag phenomenon Juanita More! Judging the contestants in the categories of swim wear and, most importantly, talent, will be celebrity judges: Fauxnique (Miss Trannyshack 2003), Chi Chi LaRue, Gina Schock and Jane Wedlin (Go-Go’s), Glamamore, and Leigh Crow (Whoa Nellies). Doors open @ 8:30 pm, Pageant begins @10:00 pm (sharp).

TICKETS $20 advance tickets, $30 at the door on the night of the Pageant. Advance tickets available at BODY, 450 Castro St. and PIEDMONT BOUTIQUE, 1452 Haight St.

Making her final official walk down the catwalk to (reluctantly) relinquish her tiara and to crown the new 2005 Miss Trannyshack winner, will be drag superstar Anna Conda. Door diva Miss Chocolate will be at the door to relieve you of your money, and resident Trannyshack DJ Derek and guest DJ Jim Hopkins will be in attendance spinning tunes for your dancing pleasure before and after the Pageant.

Trannyshack, now in its 10th award-winning year, is San Francisco’s longest-running weekly drag and performance hotspot. Its midnight drag showcase has become the object of legend, and it serves as an important venue for up and coming local gender-bending talent, as well as visiting out-of-town drag luminaries.

HEKLINA is the hostess, producer, and creator of Trannyshack, San Francisco’s longest-running drag performance night club, now in it’s 10th year of shocking and delighting packed audiences every Tuesday night at midnight at the STUD Bar in SF. Defying all expectations, Trannyshack incorporates everything from low brow trash to high brow performance art, and has become famous (or, infamous) worldwide as the quintessential San Francisco experience. No visit to the City is complete without a stop at Trannyshack. The club has been featured in OUT (which named it one of the top 10 reasons to move to San Francisco), GENRE, and PAPER magazine and has won numerous Best of the Bay awards. Trannyshack is also branching out it’s empire, with LA and NYC in 2005.

Heklina gained fame as Trannyshack’s MC, keeping a tight rein on the chaos with her unflappable humor & sparkling wit. When not busy running the club with an iron heel, she is a popular hostess for hire around the City, and has graced the Folsom St. Fair, Castro St. Fair, Gay Pride Main Stage, Castro Theater, and Halloween Main Stage. In addition she is a tireless fundraiser MC, hosting, among others, benefits for PAWS, Project Open Hand, Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic, Bay Positives, Lyric, the AIDS Emergency Fund, and the Rescue Animal Shelter, Community United Against Violence, and Marriage Equality. She has been seen on the E! Entertainment Network, BBC Television’s AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 RAVES, and as a guest on the Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake shows. Look for her in the upcoming Fox TV reality show THE BACHELOR. She was voted Community Grand Marshal of the 2004 San Francisco GLBTQ Pride Parade, and, most recently, was the subject of 2 documentaries in the 2005 Frameline SF Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
