Big Bend Arts Council Sponsors Texas Mountain Art Seminar

VAN HORN, TX /UCWE/ - Big Bend Arts Council is proud to sponsor the inaugural Texas Mountain Art Seminar, Show & Sale coming to Van Horn November 11-13, 2005. The event was developed in coordination with the Economic Development Corporation for the dual purpose of assisting regional artists with developing small business skills and to promote tourism of the Texas Mountain region. The weekend-long event will consist of the exhibit opening on Friday night and the weekend long seminar and art show.

The event was established in response to regional artists’ demand for a small business skills seminar. The Texas Mountain and Big Bend region of Texas enjoys a strong artistic community with galleries abundant in many of the small rural communities. Most recently Prada Marfa has been on display less than 40 miles south of Van Horn on Interstate 90 limit, putting the region in the spotlight around the world. Aspiring professional artists from throughout the region and state, as well as nationally are invited to be part of this unique professional development event and also sell their art in the show.

To celebrate the inaugural event, tickets have been significantly discounted both online and in regional locations. Additional discounts are available to high school and college students. Discount seminar tickets are being sold throughout the region and online at www.TexasMountainArt.com.

The Small Business Seminar for Artists will feature sessions about the business of being an artist, providing practical guidance on topics from pricing your work to online promotion. Sessions will be presented by successful, knowledgeable artists and business professionals. The Art Show and Sale will feature paintings, sculpture and pottery that portray the rich heritage and beauty of the Texas Mountain Region. To learn more about the seminar or find out how to be part of the show and sale, visit www.TexasMountainArt.com.

To generate the greatest regional impact, select locations within the Texas Mountain region will sell discounted seminar tickets, as well as tickets to Texas Mountain Art Exhibit Opening Reception, an elegant evening with the artists that is open to the public. These ticket selling locations include: Van Horn Convention and Visitors Bureau, Ashby and Allison Gallery for the Arts in Alpine, Eve’s Garden in Marathon, Marfa Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Tempest Gallery in Ft. Davis.

The Big Bend Arts Council will also be hosting the “$25/Square Foot Art Extravaganza” gallery night in Alpine, Texas. This event will last November 11- 19 and will serve as a membership drive for the organization. Interested artists are invited to submit a 12” x 12” canvas of any medium to the show. No entry fee is required . Discounted membership will be offered to participating artists; for more information about this gallery night please visit www.bigbendartscouncil.org.
